Illustrator Tutorial on Inverted Strokes

Journal Entry: Fri May 25, 2012, 5:33 PM

In this week's tutorial I cover a quick (under 2 minutes, look at that speed), simple fix to the all-too-common problem of having a stroke or brush in Illustrator go inverted when it overlaps itself. This tends to happen a lot when making custom fonts or illustrations.

`smashmethod exemplifies the path of the righteous Deviant. His selflessness, evinced by his tutorials, resources and patient comments is only outweighed by his talent and humility. In a world that is becoming increasingly about taking, it is refreshing and heartwarming to see someone who is so predisposed to giving. `smashmethod sets a wonderful example for all to follow.

Hi Smashmethod

I used this graphic on one of my works as i came across it on officialpsds - [link] & it came with this licence [link]

Someone has brought it to my attention ([link] ) that this is your work. Just wanted to check that with you that it is ok to use or shall i remove it?

thanks

These people are in the wrong, however, as none of my works are under the license they say, and aren't to be used, remixed, or placed in commercial things for any reason. I'll probably waste 30minutes of my life contacting them about it, never hear a response, and the world will go on. Just makes me angry is all.

The internet is a faceless beast.

You didn't know when you found/grabbed/used whatever it from that site, so you can continue to use it for whatever you want. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, though.

Hi! I'm thinking about starting a website, and I was wondering if I could possibly use the picture with all the music panels compiled into one. I would of course give you full credit, and could even leave a link to your page, if you'd like.

Kind of depends what it is. I'm not quite sure what you meant by "into one" -- into one what? A website? A background? So long as you're not selling it, or profiting from anything derivative off of it, feel free to use it as a background or whatever. Just don't claim it as your own and we're good. Thanks for asking.

I would like to use it as one of the pictures on the home page. But no, I wouldn't be profititing off of it. I would only be using it because it fits in perfectly with the front page. And no problem. I wouldn't want someone to go stealing my work and not giving me credit for it, and know I would certainly prefer that they ask me first, and so I figured others might feel the same about their work.

Worth the listen, I hope :)

You might want to look into my Fictionalhead albums on Bandcamp, it's a very similar style.

Hanging in there. Seems like a lot of time passes while few things get done (if my dA activity wasn't making that obvious). But all in all, doing well. You?

Hey Dan, I would like to invite you to my Group, Temple-of-Typefaces. I will send you an invitation. Just reject if you're not interested. Regardless, I would like to feature your typeface in the Group's gallery as an example of excellent type design.
