i like the design and the bone texture is really good, but the other textures and lighting have much to be improved on. photo textures on plain models is better suited to game design than art pieces.. otherwise it makes the piece look kinda amateurish imo.
You, like myself, are one of the few people around here doing a 3D entry for this contest, thats why I'm really interested in your work.
First subject, your design:
Just plain cool. The smal chest is just a brilliant idea. You are incorporating all th original elements of vic rattlehead and still you manage to be original! Thats a great accomplishment.
Now the realization:
Overall good work, with some glitches. For example the elements of the chain could be a bit more rounded, as well as the iron claws at his jaw. But I think this stylized, edged look is what you aimed for.
Did you use procedural textures, or UV-maps? Because, the texturing is really great, no seams, everything fits nicely and it doesn't look generic. The only negative thing is, that the skull texture expands into regions, where it is not suited, like the teeths. Also nice bump/normal maps.
The lighting is a bit too basic, but it fits the overall style very well. I would prefer a darker, more atmospheric lighting, like I used for my vic, but thats just my personal teste.
